ea sports pga tour king of the courseThis is a review of one of my favorite new golf games for mobile devices. If you haven’t played the new phone game by EA Sports called PGA Tour King Of The Course, you should. What’s amazing is that it’s completely free to play. It’s available for iPhones, iPads and  Androids. It’s available for free download on Google Play and the App Store. Did I mention that this is a free golf video game for your cellphone? As in FREE? Like all “free to play” phone games, they make their money by offering you perks for sale. You can spend money on it for “cool stuff”, but you don’t have to.You don’t have to pay a single penny on it of you don’t want to.

So what’s the big deal with King Of The Course? It’s an arcade style golf game that’s played on your mobile device. You swipe to take your shots on the virtual course. You can even make your shots hook or slice, and even put some back or forward spin on them. You get to play on a bunch of PGA tour courses such as Pinehurst No. 2 and TPC Sawgrass, to name a few.

My favorite part is that you can invite your friends to challenge. So just like in real life, you and your friends can “get together” and play the same course together. The winner is crowned the “king of the course”. That social piece really makes it a lot of fun. If you don’t have any friends online to play with you, you can just play solo or join up with random people from around the world.

In addition to playing a normal round of golf you can also go into some fun modes. In one you practice hitting a bullseye target. In another you practice making trick shots. My favorite two are trying to skip over the water and landing on a floating platform. Those two took me hours to get the hang of, and I could play just those all day long! There are actually over 300 different challenges that you can try to master, but I haven’t played anywhere near that many yet.

I guess the neatest thing about it is the graphics. For a free golf game you would expect it to look like crap. With EA behind it, they definitely threw some money into it to make it look really nice. It’s hard to believe that the graphics can look so good on a cellphone game, but it does. The shadow effects are extremely realistic. The weather and the way that you can see the wind blowing the grass and trees is impressive. In my opinion, just based off of the graphics I would expect to be paying around $20 for it.

On Google Play this game has gotten more than 75,000 reviews and ratings already. The vast majority of the raters gave it 5 stars, and it has an overall review rating of 4 stars. That’s really good, if you know how picky and sarcastic some people can be online. As with everything, you are going to have your fair share of negative reviewers and complainers. Some complain that it crashes and has a lot of bugs. I have probably spent a hundred hours on it with my iPhone and I can’t remember it crashing or glitching one single time.

If you are going to play it on your Android you will need at least 2.3.3, and for your iPhone it will work fine on the iPhone 4, but it’s really geared for the iPhone 5 or 6 (what I have).

My overall review of the PGA Tour King Of The Course made by good old EA sports is a 5 stars out of 5. I think it’s the most entertaining free app that I have ever played, except for maybe Clash of Clans. Now go download it!

P.S. If you know of any cheats or hacks for this game, please leave a comment with details.
